Description

This is a substitute/temporary position (on-call, as needed) which could occasionally lead to a long-term assignment.  Assignments will be based on vacancy created due to the absence of the regular employee.  Location will vary based on assignment. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (no exceptions):

  1. 60 college credit hours
  2. Associate's degree or higher
  3. Missouri ParaPro Assessment passing score (before September 23, 2013)
  4. Missouri Paraprofessional Assessment passing score (after September 23, 2013), Or
  5. Completed Missouri's 20-hour online substitute training program.
  6. Knowledge of basic computer programs/functions
  7. Current CPR and First Aid Certification
  8. Experience preferred 

REPORTS TO:

      Building Principal/Coordinator of Health Services

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Promote an optimal level of wellness for students and staff.
  2. Uphold professional standards, the Missouri Nurse Practice Act, and other statutes and regulations applicable to the practice of school nursing.
  3. Collaborate with other health services team members.
  4. Provide relevant and reliable health-related information to students, families, and staff.
  5. Assist with health screenings and subsequent follow-up.
  6. Properly and accurately document all clinic visits.  Include times, reasons for visits, treatment provided, communication with parents, etc.
  7. Dispense medication and provide treatment as prescribed by physician and delegated by the school nurse according to District policy and procedures.
  8. Maintain and secure area for all prescription medications brought for students.
  9. Ensure proper procedures are followed for receiving, dispensing, and returning prescription medicines to parents.
  10. Provide basic health care triage to students under the delegation of the District Nurse or District Health Service Coordinator.
  11. Respond to medical emergencies and contact nurse or emergency medical personnel as necessary.  Provide first aid according to established policies and procedures and complete and file necessary forms.
  12. Determine the necessity or immediacy for sending students home or back to their classroom.
  13. Contact parents if student needs to be picked up for immediate attention.
  14. Maintain a file on all referrals, counseling, and action taken.
  15. Maintain Health Services office by updating health records, tracking inventory, filing and other related functions for the maintenance of an organized and effective health office, handling telephone calls and other communications in a professional manner.
  16. Other duties, as assigned.
