QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Bachelor’s Degree in education, Applied Behavior Analysis, Social Work, Psychology, or related field. 2. Graduate Degree or other advanced education in special education preferred. 3. Knowledge and successful use of current research-based instruction, trauma informed, and behavioral strategies. 4. Leadership and organizational skills 5. Effective, professional communication skills. 6. Ability and desire to work as a contributing member of a team. 7. Ability to effectively coach and mentor educators. 8. Ability to provide engaging research based professional development.
REPORTS TO: Building principal and District Title 1 LEA
JOB GOAL: Highly qualified Behavior Intervention Specialist with knowledge and skills necessary to assist individuals, groups and systems through the application of positive behavior supports. The Behavior Specialist helps coordinate Functional Assessments of Behavior and Behavior Intervention Plan that address students’ inappropriate behaviors and provide a means to help the students become more academically successful. Behavior Intervention Specialist also provides classroom and school-wide behavior management strategies
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assists in developing procedures and training materials for district staff involved with students at risk for the purpose of enhancing programs for students. 2. Collaborate with staff in both the general education and special education environments for the purpose of providing support to the education process. 3. Communicate and collaborate with teams for the purpose of discussing student progress on behavior issues. 4. Conducts workshops, training, in-service presentations, etc. in classroom management techniques and other topics for the purpose of developing skills and establishing effective relationships with students at risk or with behavior concerns. 5. Coordinate and assist in developing and implementing Functional Behavioral Analysis/Behavioral Intervention plans for the purpose of supporting students. 6. Maintains documentation and monitors the behavior data of students for the purpose of ensuring compliance with mandated policies, regulations and/or procedures. 7. Monitors and determines needed services for the purpose of recognizing the need for prevention and involving others in the planning and delivery of prevention activities. 8. Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines. 9. Recommends available and appropriate learning resources and consults with teachers for the purpose of providing support on the appropriate use of those resources. 10. Support students and staff for the purpose of using positive behavioral supports and use of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention
