JOB TITLE:  Athletic Trainer

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in athletic training, exercise science, or a related field (required).
  • Master's degree in athletic training from a CAATE-accredited program (preferred).
  • Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers (required).
  • Valid state licensure or certification in athletic training (required).
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a practicing BOC-certified athletic trainer (prefered).
  • CPR/First Aid certification (required).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management

Full Time/Exempt Position 

 

Position Summary:

The Athletic Trainer is responsible for preventing, diagnosing, and treating injuries and illnesses related to athletic activities among students at both the high school and middle school levels. The role includes working closely with student-athletes, coaches, parents, and healthcare providers to ensure the safety and well-being of athletes. The Athletic Trainer will implement injury prevention programs, provide immediate care for injuries, and guide students through rehabilitation.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Injury Prevention and Assessment:
    • Develop and implement injury prevention programs for student-athletes.
    • Perform injury evaluations and determine the appropriate course of treatment.
    • Maintain knowledge of sports-related injuries and provide recommendations for reducing risk.
  2. Treatment and Rehabilitation:
    • Administer first aid, emergency care, and follow-up treatment to injured athletes.
    • Design and oversee rehabilitation programs for student-athletes to return to play safely.
    • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for student-athletes.
  3. Game and Practice Coverage:
    • Provide on-site coverage for athletic practices and competitions, including home and away games as needed.
    • Ensure proper communication between coaches, students, and parents regarding health concerns.
  4. Compliance and Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, treatment logs, and injury reports.
    • Ensure compliance with state laws, school policies, and governing sports organizations' regulations regarding student-athlete health and safety.
    • Oversee the athletic training room, ensuring a safe and well-equipped environment.
  5. Education and Communication:
    • Educate student-athletes, coaches, and parents on injury prevention, proper training techniques, and general health and wellness.
    • Serve as a liaison between the school district, parents, and medical professionals.
  6. Other Duties as Assigned:
    • Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and continuing education to maintain certification and improve skills.
    • Support the overall mission of the athletics department and the school district.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required for athletic events.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to assist with lifting, moving, and supporting athletes during treatment.

Salary and Benefits:

 

Competitive salary based on experience, with a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plan, and professional development opportunities. Hourly rate between $27-40 per hour.
